Pokemon Go Update Dissapointing Users

If you’re like me, you’ve been playing Pokemon GO since it’s release and have really enjoyed it, you’re probably level 10 or higher and have amassed some pretty powerful pokemon in your arsenal.  You probably also liked to track Pokemon that were a certain distance away from you or even liked to save battery by holding your screen down during your search (on iOS) — well guess what?  Niantic, the creator of our beloved game, just gave us a big fat middle finger with an update that removed those features!
Niantic has noted that there are more things that they have not yet added to the game that are coming.  Some things the community wants are:
  • Versus battles
  • Trading Pokemon
The question is why is the game creator shutting off features from the game that helped to make it so loved?  Meanwhile, they are still not providing the features that many users thought would be included in the game to begin with.  With things like this happening one can only wonder how long will this game maintain the traction that it currently has; although, it is important to the note that only a select group of users are vocalizing their pains.
Bottom line: Niantic, get it together!

Pokemon GO — A Rant

Pokemon GO is a great game, a truly astonishing experience with something cool around every corner; however, some columnists are upset that the technology world is raving and loving this game.
GET OVER IT.
There is finally a game that inspires people to get up, move around and meet people in real life.  If you’re upset about that, then we have some problems to address here.  One writer on The Washington Post  obviously hates the game; however, as most people that do not like it — this piece falls into the category of hating it just to hate it, only because it is the latest craze.  Asinine.
The video below shows gamers playing in NYC Central Park and people are literally running at the sight to get an opportunity to catch a Pokemon that has just appeared — RUNNING.  With obesity hitting it’s peaks in the US and other countries this is something that we need right now, not people belittling the game.
A few notes of caution:
  • Watch where you are going.
  • Be mindful of where you are at all times.
  • Respect those around you who may not be playing the game.
Bottom Line:  The makers of Pokemon GO have a hit on their hands and whether you like it or not you should be happy that this game has people out and about exploring their local areas rather than wasting away gaining unwanted pounds in front of the Xbox.

Technology & Life — 2016

It is July 2016 and in a world filled with smartphones, smarthomes, smartcars and smart + INSERT DUMB THING HERE, there are mounds of technology that are at our fingertips that our ancestors would’ve loved to have been able to take advantage of.  We can communicate with friends and family across the world or country in minutes via Skype or FaceTime, publish a video that can be seen by millions on YouTube and have your car drive itself on the interstate — what a world we live in.
However, “with great power, comes great responsibility”.  We have all of these things at our realm that can help us; however, it can also be a hindrance if we do not seek our real people and real conversations instead of gallivanting on-line in forums.  Not only must we try our best to retain those real life moments (in moderation) we must also not allow technology to put our lives at risk (ie. using Tesla’s autopilot while sleeping at the wheel — a huge “no, no”).  Technology is great and as someone who’s life is largely influenced by it, I can see the huge overwhelming benefits of taking advantage of it; however, we must also not allow it to control us — if it doesn’t make your life better, then discard it.
Bottom line:  The technological advances that we see today are simply too much to act as if they aren’t great influences, I strongly suggest you utilize the tech around us to help make your life better, easier and more fun while ensuring that you aren’t putting yourself or others in danger.

Pokemon GO delivers an overall fun experience with chances to meet real life people that are on the same mission as you are, to become a “Pokemon Master”.  Check out the wonderful experience of the app, which is available on iOS and Android from our friends at TWiT:
Bottom line:  Go catch ’em all!!

My favorite productivity apps 2016!

Why do we have computers in our pockets if we cannot increase our productivity?  I am all for having a fun game or two, but if your device is just sitting in your pocket collecting dust — then perhaps you should switch back to a feature-phone, eh?
Whether you use Android or iOS, the big players in the productivity app arena are the same and here I will highlight the best cross-platform apps for you to choose from!

  1. EverNote.  This utility of all utilities is probably the best swiss army knife of note taking applications there is on the market today.  With the ability to clip from websites, send notes via email or phone, adding voice to notes, advanced collaboration features — this one app simply has and does it all!  See the power here –>
  2. TickTick.  Need a to do list application?  This is for you.  Google sign in, sync accross multiple devices, web interface and multiple lists that you can track — need I say more?
  3. Buffer.  Have multiple social media accounts that you want to manage and manipulate at one centralized location?  Buffer has the tools to allow you to do that.  In addition, you can track the success of what you share and schedule when your posts go out!  Nothing short of excellent.
  4. LastPass.  Password managers are abundant nowadays, but with password generation built in and over the top security being used to secure your credentials, look no further.  The iOS app even allows for unlocking the password vault with TouchID to ensure the most security on your device.
  5. BetterNet.  What is BetterNet?  It is a cross-platform VPN client that will secure your data as it’s transferred over the internet.  More important is that you secure yourself when you are on a network that you are not familiar with (ie. Starbucks Wifi, Airport Wifi, etc) as these are breeding grounds for attack.  Some believe that VPN does not work and does not conceal you data, tell the non-believers that they are 100% wrong not even ISPs can tell what you are sending because it is through a secure tunnel.  (end points does not equal packets)  Want to know why you should have and utilize VPN?

These top productivity tools are sure to brighten your technological day!  All of these have equal iOS, Android and Chrome counterparts!!

Go forth and be productive!!
