Apple pulls this same stunt every year an iPhone is scheduled to be released. It never fails that a few months before the actual release an Apple employee is in a bar and happens to misplace the new design that the company has brewing. For this to happen, seemingly on cue, before every release this can be nothing other than publicity for the California phone manufacturer. I wonder how hard will Apple try to get the phone back this time; with rumors of Apple attempting to pay people off for the device there must be something they are trying to keep under wraps.
Bottom line: Apple needs to try a new discrete way of getting their product noticed, but THIS is getting old.
AT&T, the nation’s #2 wireless carrier next to the behemoth Verizon is trying to soak up the #4 T-Mobile in an attempt to provide a larger service area to its subscribers. However, that is ONE way to look at it. On the other hand, many analysts can agree that combining to poorly ran networks just wouldn’t work out.
The U.S. Justice Department wants to block this acquisition because they believe that this would be unfair to the consumer by lessening the competition and would allow AT&T(and possibly Verizon) to further raise wireless prices, simply because there would be no other true competitors.
This all comes as good news to me, as I have seen the woes of AT&T subscribers. But what would you do if your company only made it because of Apple’s iPhone. On the other hand, since Apple isn’t exclusive with the iPhone anymore, there really isn’t anything keeping AT&T users from switching to a more reliable network….
Is this the end of an era? If so, it has truly been one of the most remarkable. I am no Apple fan-boy by any means; however, anyone can take a notice that the name Steve Jobs in synonymous with Apple.
It has been confirmed that the COO of Apple, Tim Cook, will be taking over as Jobs will take on a more meager position within the company. So, what does this mean for the top valued corporation in America?
I have always been a firm believer that Jobs always played a large role in how Apple operated — wanting to close it’s customers in and being afraid of competition. Will Tim Cook be the same tenacious leader or will Apple be more formidable now?
HP’s WebOS is finally dead. This comes as a huge surprise to me.
Why?
Let’s face it but WebOS was no iOS or Android, but when it came to a beautifully presented and stylized mobile operating system HP nailed it. The user-interface of WebOS was beautiful, the aspect that held this mobile operating system back is that there was no initial “call to action” or need to have it. When I first heard of the Palm Pre and initially got to go hands on with the device, I was mystified. It completely blew my Samsung Omnia with Windows Mobile 6.5 away. WebOS multi-taksed in a very controlled way that didn’t cause terrible slowdowns or random crashes.
WebOS Downfalls:
Released initially to one carrier
Released on one device
No large fan-base
Bottom line: It is sad to see HP give up on WebOS, but for now this is the end.
At the beginning of the week I was surprised to see an email that read that Google would buy Motorola Mobility for $12.5 billion. Not only is this a great move on Google’s behalf, it will really shake things up in the mobile sector of the industry.
Why?
Over 25,000 patents gained
Hardware company at Google’s fingertips
Google has been the “Cinderella” OS of sorts, because it began small but it started to gain more and more market share. People simply began to grow tired of Apple, thinking that they own the industry. Apple has to be the most cocky of all technological companies. On the other hand, their cockiness comes with their great innovations; yet, no matter how great the appear to be they still only manage to capture a small sector of the computing world. Although, when it comes to the mobile industry after Google’s big purchase, I see it being an all out war between iOS and Google’s Android. WebOS and Windows Phone 7 just do not stand a chance after this…..and let’s not forget about the struggling Blackberry OS.
Is it time to throw in the towel?
